CUPE Reaches Tentative Agreement with Government; Strike Action
Cancelled

This evening, education workers from the Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU), represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), reached a tentative agreement with the Government of Ontario.
As a result, the strike action announced by CUPE education workers, originally scheduled to begin on Monday, November 21, has been cancelled. CUPE education workers will report to work on Monday.

The Association congratulates CUPE education workers on reaching a tentative agreement following a very
difficult round of bargaining. And we thank you – 45,000 Catholic teachers across Ontario – for your
unwavering demonstration of solidarity and support. This show of unity across the labour movement and
wider communities was critical in forcing the Ford government to rescind its draconian Bill 28 and use of
the notwithstanding clause, and return to the bargaining table.

As the Association continues negotiating for the renewal of our central agreement, it will be vital to
continue to build upon this solidarity and unity.
