Welcome to the workshop proposal/registration site for the Waterloo Catholic Teachers PD Day.
In education, the term professional development may be used in reference to a wide variety of specialized training, formal education, or advanced professional learning intended to help administrators, teachers, and other educators improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness. Please keep this in mind when you are proposing a workshop. Your workshop must have a real connection to what you do in your classroom in terms of planning, teaching, assessment, evaluation and reporting or have direct connections to your professional roles and responsibilities. In the past few years we have had to deny workshops that have to do with “Personal Development.” The determining factor often comes down to these questions: Does the workshop have value to teachers in terms of their job and employment or does it fall under something that might be better explored in a Spiritual Development Day? We do see the value of workshops that help with the mental health and wellness of teachers but these are often difficult to justify as part of a Professional Development day. I’m sorry that we can’t approve everything, but as this day is guaranteed through our Collective Agreement, we must be responsible for what happens “professionally” on that day.
