OECTA President René Jansen in de Wal Addresses YOUR Bargaining-related Questions

As you are likely aware, starting in September, local units will be hosting strike vote rallies across the province, leading up to our all-member strike vote on October 18 and 19.

To support Catholic teachers, and to answer your questions, OECTA President René Jansen in de Wal has recorded a bargaining-focused video address to members on the key issues at the bargaining table, the Ford Conservative government’s refusal to get serious and negotiate in good faith, and the need for Catholic teachers to deliver an overwhelming strike vote mandate.

In addition to these topics, President Jansen in de Wal also addresses the government’s agreement with the
Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO), which may see OSSTF enter binding
arbitration, and why entering into binding arbitration is not something that our Association can consider at
our bargaining table at this time.

Catholic teachers are strongly encouraged to watch this video in the Members’ Area at catholicteachers.ca and to review the Association’s Strike Vote FAQs, which provide additional information on:

  • why the Association is taking a strike vote;
  • details and the importance of upcoming strike vote rallies;
  • how to cast your ballot in the strike vote and what you need to vote; and
  • the Association’s position on binding arbitration.
