Three northern Catholic school boards want the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association to petition the provincial Ministry of Education to either repeal or amend a provincial hiring regulation, because the boards believe it’s impeding their ability to attract new teachers to northern Ontario.

Education Act Ontario Regulation 274/12, filed in 2012, regulates how teachers are hired in Ontario — northwestern Ontario Catholic boards, including the Kenora Catholic District School Board, take issue with the length of time the process requires, arguing it encourages teachers to stay within one school board, rather than starting their careers in other parts of the province.
